Celebrating Our Volunteers During Volunteers’ Week 2026

As part of Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June), we were delighted to welcome many of our wonderful volunteers to The Creighton Centre for a special event to celebrate the invaluable contribution they make to the lives of older people in our community.

Every week, our volunteers offer their time, kindness, companionship and practical support in countless ways. Whether welcoming people to activities, making home support phone calls, supporting people’s recovery after a fall or illness, supporting social events, helping behind the scenes or simply being a friendly face on reception, they help make The Creighton Centre the warm and welcoming place it is.

During the reception, our Older People’s Services Manager, Jess Lawn, shared a poem she had written especially for our volunteers. Her words captured the many different ways volunteers make a difference, often through small acts of kindness that have a lasting impact.

A Poem for Our Wonderful Creighton Centre Volunteers

Written and read by Jess Lawn, Older People’s Services Manager, for Volunteers’ Week 2026.

Some kindness arrives with a knock at the door,
A familiar voice, a smile once more.
Some kindness is heard down the telephone line,
A gentle “hello”, a moment of time.

Some kindness is found at the reception desk,
A welcome, a laugh, a quiet “what’s next?”
Some kindness is tucked in the office unseen,
In admin, in planning, in keeping things clean.

Some kindness walks slowly beside someone’s pace,
Bringing courage and comfort to each little space.
Some kindness brings people together again,
Through coffee, through classes, through sunshine and rain.

And this Volunteers’ Week, we want you to know,
How deeply your kindness continues to grow.
In every small gesture, in all that you do,
The heart of our Centre is strengthened by you.

So today we celebrate, recognise and cheer,
The time, care and warmth you give throughout the year.
You are valued, appreciated, and treasured too,
The Creighton Centre is better because of you.

Volunteers are at the heart of our community. Their generosity, commitment and compassion help reduce isolation, build friendships and create opportunities for older people to stay active, connected and supported.

To every volunteer who gives their time to The Creighton Centre: thank you. Your contribution is deeply appreciated, not just during Volunteers’ Week, but every day of the year.
