22 Homeline older residents and carers enjoyed a beautiful summer trip to Kew Gardens, bringing people together for a day of friendship, fresh air and time in nature.
For many of the older residents we support, getting out and about can become more difficult over time. Mobility, confidence, health worries and loneliness can all make it harder to enjoy the places and activities that once felt simple. Homeline trips like this help remove some of those barriers, offering residents a safe, supported and welcoming way to reconnect with the world around them.
On a very sunny day, and with the support of Westway Community Transport, the group travelled to Kew in accessible transport, helping make the day possible for residents who may otherwise have found the journey difficult.
Arriving together, everyone was ready to enjoy a memorable day in the gardens. With hats, fans, cold drinks and plenty of shady stops, the group took things at a relaxed pace. Residents shared lunch under the trees, caught up with familiar faces and enjoyed the warmth and companionship of the Homeline community.
A real highlight of the day was the Kew land train, which allowed residents and carers to see more of the gardens without the pressure of walking long distances. It made the day more accessible, more comfortable and gave everyone the chance to take in the beauty of Kew together.
There were lots of small but special moments throughout the day — conversations over lunch, laughter on the land train, helping hands with wheelchairs and walking aids, and residents simply enjoying the chance to be somewhere beautiful with people who care.
These outings are about much more than a day trip. They help reduce isolation, build confidence and remind older residents that they remain connected, valued and part of their community.
A huge thank you to our volunteers and carers who supported the trip with such kindness and care!
