“A few minutes can make a difference in someone’s life, and change yours”. Befriending Networks interview our Homeline telephone befriending volunteer, Marie-Emile about her experience volunteering for The Creighton Centre
As part of Volunteers’ Week, we want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible impact of all the volunteers who give their time, energy and care to The Creighton Centre. From telephone and home befrienders, to reception, mentoring, IT, and wellbeing activity volunteers—they are a vital part of what makes our organisation so special.
To celebrate Volunteers’ Week, we were honoured that Befriending Networks published a volunteering success story from one of our telephone befrienders, Marie-Emilie.
In this interview, befriender Marie-Emilie tells us about her role as a telephone befriender, how it fits into her life as a single parent and the positive impact it’s had on her life.

Marie-Emilie says:
Would you recommend volunteering to others? “Yes 100%. If you have an hour to spare every week to call people that are isolated and lonely don’t hesitate. These few minute calls can make a difference in someone’s life to feel heard, and will change yours too.”
People with learning disabilities face exclusion. Our outreach for 70 people offers support, skills, coaching, wellbeing, and literacy—help us improve the quality of their lives
